SRO Case Study – Securitas

Smart Recruit Online Case Study - Securitas

Securitas are now one of the biggest security providers in the UK, employing over 10,000 people. On a global scale the company employs over 370,000 employees across 58 different countries including North America, Europe, and Australia.

Smart Recruit Online (SRO) has worked with Securitas since late 2018 and in the short time that we have worked together, SRO has had a huge impact on their recruitment process.

We look back at their challenges, objectives, and outcomes in this case study:

What were the range of recruitment challenges you faced prior to working with SRO?

•Quality and quantity of applications were not meeting demand

•Systems to support the recruitment process were not working harmoniously

•High applicant drop-off rates: over 18,000 applications in a year and only 6,000 completed the applications process

•Some jobs remained unfilled for long periods of time

•No centralised recruitment solution, so hiring managers were all doing different things

What were the main objectives that you set out to achieve?

•Increase the quality and quantity of applications

•Improve key metrics such as time to hire and fill rates

•Hiring managers to be able to follow a more efficient, centralised process

•Reduce applicant drop off rates

•Improve recruitment across a diverse mix of applicants

•Generate higher quantities of appropriate applicants for all jobs, not just security roles

What were your thoughts on the consultation process with SRO Technical Demonstrator and the Account Manager? Was there any pressure selling involved?

•SRO were attentive, very knowledgeable, patient and understanding

•They took their time to fully understand our requirements over many weeks of consultation

•SRO delivered the system on the due date against the odds

•SRO implemented custom changes to the system to deliver our bespoke requirements

•The combined launch of our SRO system, along with an update of the Securitas careers page and an integration with our 3rd party screening provider all went very smoothly

Was the onboarding and training process professional and organised?

•Comprehensive training and onboarding went beyond expectations

•The vast majority of the training was done via screen share

•SRO delivered training at different times to accommodate everyone and all training sessions were recorded for those who couldn’t join a live call

•SRO were hugely accommodating as we have offices across the UK, and colleagues work different shift patterns

•SRO added the Securitas intranet to our media posting options

How have you found using the platform and tools?

•It’s very easy to manage candidate communications, forms, SMS and email templates can all be set up in advance

•We’ve improved the user and candidate experience and seen a massive reduction in applicant drop off

•We are getting increased numbers of good quality applicants and it’s easier to get applicants through the screening process

•SRO have been very agile and responded to customisation requests to evolve the system in line with our requests

•The system makes recruitment easier and is far less time consuming

•More jobs filled in far less time

•On one recent project for a major National client, SRO helped contribute towards filling nearly 400 roles in less than a month at an average cost of under £8 per hire

What are the outcomes achieved so far and are you happy that we have met the majority of your objectives?

•Securitas are attracting higher caliber applicants against all jobs. We recruit for more than 80 different job titles and although the majority are for security roles, we also recruit head office positions i.e. Finance, IT, Sales, Marketing, HSE, Operations, Customer Support and Project Management

•Simply put, we do not struggle to find good quality candidates

•The media network offered by SRO did not look significantly different to our previous supplier however we are now attracting around 100,000 applicants a year, the drop off rate has reduced significantly and we are achieving close to a ten-fold increase in applications. SRO suggested this was possible, and naturally we were very sceptical, however, the reality has surpassed our expectations

•Our recruitment process is far easier and simpler now with faster times to hire and higher fill rates from first time advertising response

Please summarise your general thoughts on working with Smart Recruit Online and the team

•SRO’s expertise and ongoing support in developing process improvements, whilst delivering new and improved features has been commendable

•Fewer headaches for HR, happy hiring managers, and motivated applicants

•SRO are very open to making changes and improvements to the system that benefit both parties – we are working together in a true partnership

What are your plans/objectives for the future with SRO?

•We would like to improve the diversity of candidates, including attracting more women and young people into Securitas We have already discussed working on this strategy with senior members of the SRO team to help make this happen

•We want to change the preconception of working in the security industry. Securitas would like to recruit more candidates that have a strong focus on customer service

•We want to help people build their career with Securitas. Many of our Directors started as security guards or in the graduate scheme, so we have real examples of what can be achieved

•We are focused on creating a healthy, inclusive working environment with mental health and wellbeing at the top of our agenda for our people

An example of where SRO and Securitas have worked well together:

Securitas recently won a contract to provide security for a major UK venue. With a very short lead time (under 4 weeks) to get over 400 roles filled we managed to achieve this a few days ahead of schedule, at an average cost of under £8 per hire.
