The employees over at HR managed the hiring and firing of candidates, kept the books, took care of payroll, and starkly maintained the status quo. They didn’t have extensive access to technology, and their position in the company was middle of the road, to say the least.

However, HR is now the shining star of any business. It is the glue that holds everything together through the power of mediation, mentorship, and astute decision-making. Nevertheless, this impressive alteration doesn’t mean that the department is done with progressing. In fact, the high-tech nature of today’s job industry impacts it as well.

The first aspect to consider from this point of view is how powerful opinions have become online. Just like we rate services nowadays, we can also aptly comment upon the advantages and disadvantages of working for certain firms. The most popular website for this is Glassdoor, but local iterations exist in most countries around the globe.

Therefore, human resources management is faced with a new task, namely that of marketing the company for both current and prospective employees. Getting a low rating online means less people are likely to apply for position openings, which makes recruiting talent nearly impossible the worst case scenario.

Thus, it falls on the shoulders of HR to offer motivating pay, attractive benefits, and an overall positive impression of the company. In this way, its reputation will grow, leading young talent to seek positions with the firm. In addition to this, it is the responsibility of the same department to create and nurture a beneficial company culture that confirms all of the above.

Fortunately, technology is also a huge aid in this respect. Companies now have the opportunity to gather data from a multitude of source and use it to improve staff experience as much as possible. By profiting from the possibilities created by this, human resources management will become more accurate and efficient in the years to come.
